These days, Jackson Turnbull, a Grade 8 student at Lakeview Junior High School, says he needs help to be more focused (注意力集中的) in class. And his classmate Mckenna Burchett says he feels sad. He also needs help.
Luckily, in their school, there is a room called SMART lab. It helps students deal with stress (精神压力). “Everything around our kids will influence them, and sometimes they may not feel so good,” a school teacher said. “In our SMART lab, these students can find a moment to take a break.”
Students usually spend about 20 minutes in the lab. There, they can talk, read, draw and listen to music. All these things can help them reduce stress, so they will be more focused in class.
Every year, the lab helps about 400 out of the 1,000 students in the school. “There is always a place for us to go to and there we can just be ourselves,” one of the students said.
