Tortoise and His Friends
Tortoise and his friends live by the river(河流). One morning, they want to cross(穿过) the river. Elephant and Giraffe have long legs. They can wade(蹚水). Monkey has strong arms and Tiger has strong legs. They can jump. Poor old Tortoise has short legs. He can't jump or wade.
Elephant is very kind and helpful. "You can climb onto my trunk and cross the river with me," he says. "Or me," says Giraffe. Monkey is very friendly. "Jump with me," he says. "Or me," says Tiger. "I am very big and strong." But poor old Tortoise is scared(害怕的). His body shakes. So the friends make a secret plan. Giraffe bends(弯曲) a tall tree with his long neck. Elephant snaps(断裂) it with his strong trunk. Tiger pulls the tree to the river with his strong teeth. Monkey helps with his strong arms.
"What's that?" asks Tortoise. "It's a bridge!" say his friends. "Who's it for?" asks shy old Tortoise. "Our best friend—YOU!"
