n a yard in Nangoutou village, Baoding,
69-year-old Bai Hejiang sits in a wooden chair.
His rough hands move excitedly as he tells the
story of Baoding Fast Wrestling.
Around him, over 30
children are being trained.
Some are using stones to
practice. Others are working
in pairs to practice skills. The air smells of earth and

“This art started in the Qing Dynasty,” Bai says.

the late Qing Dynasty,” he says. But 12 years ago, there
were no active gyms teaching this kind of wrestling. At
