C
Zhao Li is called "Prince Butterfly". He's famous as the writer of the "Chinese version of Fabre's Book of Insects" and the founder of Asia's largest insect museum.
His story with insects can go back to his childhood. In his early years, Zhao started making butterfly specimens (标本) with the help of his parents. He had his first specimen show when he was in high school.
Zhao's love for butterflies is crazy (疯狂的). During his college years, his favourite was going into the forests. At the age of 19, he rode over 500 kilometres, lived in farmhouses or temples (寺庙), and ate dry food along the way. He found the Lethe bipupilla (舜目黛眼蝶). This was the first time a new kind of butterfly in Sichuan had been found by a Chinese person.
The discovery (发现) trips can sometimes be dangerous. In 1992, Zhao came across a mudslide (泥石流) in Mount Gongga, Sichuan. Luckily, a tree got in the way of a big rock coming towards him and saved him. However, the dangers didn't stop him looking for butterflies.
To find the Teinopalpus aureus (金斑喙凤蝶) which is nationally protected, Zhao camped for seven days on the highest place in southern Hainan. He became the first person in China to successfully take a close - up photo of this new butterfly.
Zhao is often called "Prince Butterfly". But he said, "I'm not a prince, just someone who loves insects."
