When you interview a person, your purpose is to get specific information from him or her. Here are some suggestions:
• Write down your questions before the interview. Be sure to avoid yes-or-no questions. Because a question with yes-or-no answers is not useful.
• At the beginning of the interview, say your purpose directly.
• Remember that your job is to listen, not to talk, during the interview.
• Listen to the responses carefully, and take simple notes. If possible, record the interview. Because you can then review the information. Be sure to get permission.
• Ask proper questions to get more information or ideas about a topic.
• After the interview, review notes and add information so you won't forget it later.
