热考素材 时事热点 On Sunday, China held a special TV program to mark World Consumer Rights Day (国际消费者权益日). The program showed a serious food safety problem: some businesses used hydrogen peroxide(过氧化氢) to make chicken feet white. Chicken feet are a popular snack in China, and bleaching makes them look whiter and nicer to customers.

This program is called the 3.15 Gala. It is held by CCTV every year to protect consumers' rights. The show reported that many chicken feet on the market are treated to look white and fresh. To find out the truth, CCTV reporters went to Sichuan and Chongqing, where people really enjoy eating chicken feet.
The reporters easily entered a food workshop in Chengdu. They did not need any health certificates(证明) or disinfection procedures(消毒程序). The workshop was very dirty and messy, but the chicken feet leaving the factory looked clean and white.
However, Chinese rules do not allow hydrogen peroxide to be used in chicken feet making. It can destroy nutrients(营养) in food. If people eat such food for a long time, it may harm their mouths, livers and kidneys. Eating too much of it can even be dangerous to life.
Reporters also visited another food company in Chongqing. They found lots of hydrogen peroxide in the workshop, and the workers there also used hydrogen peroxide to bleach chicken feet. The workers said they themselves never ate such chicken feet and even advised the reporters not to eat them either. This shows how unsafe the food is.
