The kiwi
鹬 鸵
The kiwi lives only in New Zealand(新西兰). It
is a very interesting bird. It cannot fly. The kiwi is
the same size as a chicken. It doesn't have wings
or a tail. Its feathers are very soft. It has two feet.
Each foot has four toes. Its beak(鸟嘴;鸟喙) is
very long.
The kiwi likes a lot of trees around it. It sleeps in the daytime and
comes out at night. Its nose is very great. It can smell things. Its nostril
(鼻孔) is at the top of its beak. The kiwi's eggs are very big.
There are only a few kiwis in New Zealand now. People can't
usually see them. There is a picture of a kiwi in New Zealand dollar.
People from New Zealand are sometimes called kiwis.
