Rural museums in China
Most museums are in big cities. But today, museums about village culture are developing quickly in China's countryside.
Wang Zhenzhong runs a small fishing village museum in Hainan. He started it to remember his father and grandfather, who were fishermen sailing across the South China Sea. The museum shows old fishing tools and family things. It helps visitors learn about local fishing life and the fishermen's courage.
Another small museum in Jilin tells the story of Mahu Opera, a traditional Manchu art. This museum has five exhibition rooms with nearly 2,000 objects on show, including masks, clothes, instruments and books, most of which were given by a local art keeper. The founder hopes more people will learn about this old art.
China has chosen several provinces to build rural museums. These museums help protect and pass on local culture, old things, buildings and traditional arts.
