A
Lindsay Kee started her daily exercise habit
with one activity—walking her pet dog. Before
leaving on the walk, she did some standing
stretches (伸展运动).On her return, she did other
exercises such as jumping.
Over time,Kee added more exercises around
the dog walk. And now more than a year later, she
keeps exercising around the dog walk. "Adding
exercises to an existing (现有的) activity took off
the pressure of creating a whole new daily
exercise," said Kee.
What Kee did is called habit stacking (习惯

for his 2014 book of the same name. The idea
behind habit stacking is to add something you want
to start doing to something you already do
every day.
People can use habit stacking in many areas
of their daily life. Dana Santas is a movement
expert. She combines (结合) exercise habits with
her daily routine. She does push-ups before every
shower. And while she's brushing her teeth, she
does leg exercises.Santas says that her electric (电
动的) toothbrush makes a sound every 30 seconds
to remind her to brush different teeth. But she uses
the reminder to change her exercises. "It's
perfect," says Santas.
Both Kee and Santas find habit stacking
helpful. In their opinion,it's one of the best ways
to start and keep new habits. Interested in habit
stacking but not sure how to start? Well, there are
a lot of simple ideas to help us get started.
