China has its own "spidermen" in Mount Huangshan, Anhui Province, whose task is not to save the world, but to collect litter from mountaintops or pick up phones dropped by travellers. Li Peisheng, 51, is one of the 18 "spidermen" who rappel索降下 Mount Huangshan.
Reporter: Mr Li, could you tell us about your job?
Li: My job is to rappel down the mountains to collect litter. Mount Huangshan is very famous, with its special views.
Reporter: When did you start this job?
Li: I first worked as a ticket collector in 1997 and became a rappelling cleaner two years later. At first, I was really afraid. The place I rappelled was over 50 metres high. I hit the rocks and hurt myself. But I didn't give up and learnt to keep balanced.
Reporter: How did your family feel about your job?
Li: They didn't know at first. They heard about it from news reports and wanted me to change jobs. But I try to make them trust me. My job has many rules. We need to be very careful, and in good health.
Reporter: How do you make sure you are safe at work?
Li: Safety is the most important. We usually work in pairs. My first partner was Xie Tianxing, and now it's Wang Nianfeng. We watch out for each other.
Reporter: Do you have other tasks?
Li: Yes. We're protectors and guides of the tourists.
Reporter: What's the change in tourists' environmental behaviours?
Li: About 20 years ago, we rappelled 7—8 times a day. Now, with more tourists, we only rappel 4—5 times a day. Some young people use plastic bags to collect their litter. I once saw a mother tell her child not to litter after seeing us work. I'm happy that more people are protecting Mount Huangshan. I'll keep working to keep Mount Huangshan beautiful.
