二、阅读理解
Scout: Hi! I'm Scout. I'm an avie dog in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Cache: Me too! My name is Cache. Avie is short for avalanche.
Scout: An avalanche is a huge pile of snow and ice that comes rushing down a mountain. It can be really dangerous for a skier or a hiker.
Cache: A person buried(埋) by an avalanche needs help. It's our job to find them so they can be rescued.
Scout: Dogs are great at finding people because we are amazing sniffers! We can follow and remember millions of different smells.
Cache: But not every dog can be an avie dog. It takes a lot of work.
Scout: Cache and I are both two years old. We started learning how to be avie dogs when we were very young. I live and work with Bill Vore. He taught me what to do.
Cache: My person is Chris Brindisi. When I was little, he taught me to play hide-and-seek. He hid in our house, and when I found him, we played tug(拉扯游戏) with my favourite toy. It was so much fun! I love to play tug!
Scout: Bill taught me the same way. Once I got good at indoor hide-and-seek, we moved outside. He built snow caves and hid in them. It was my job to find him. Every time I did, then we played tug!
Cache: Tug is the best.
Scout: After a year or two of practice, avalanche dogs take a test to make sure we can find people buried in snow. I passed.
Cache: Me too! Passing the test is just the first step. We keep practising and learning so we stay ready for emergencies(紧急情况).
Scout: Now I go with Bill every day when he's on duty with the ski patrol. When he puts my work vest on me, I know I'm on the job.
