When you hear the word "volunteering", what do you think of it? You may think volunteering is to offer help to others without money. But the experience of helping others can be more meaningful and worth more than money.
A few months ago, I learned that the City Food Bank needed some volunteers. I used to be the organizer in my group of friends. So, I sent letters to 10 friends. 1 The group members would volunteer to make and serve dinner for the disabled people. I wanted to invite my friends to be part of the group. Almost all my friends agreed.
One day, several of my friends brought some food and helped prepare the meal. "I felt happy when I saw the disabled people get the food!" said one friend. Later, another friend made a list about serving. 2 Now each month there are new members that join the group. 3
It's hard to imagine that simple letters asking friends to help have made a great difference. At first, I just wanted to be an organizer. 4 I also love to work as a volunteer, because I can get more pleasure from the happy faces of the disabled people.
