八、阅读并回答问题
(2025南通如皋期中)Have you ever put
your old clothes into the donation box in your
neighbourhood? If not, you can do it right now
because clothes donation is becoming a trend(趋
势) in Beijing.
"From time to time, my mother clears out the
clothes which I no longer wear. You know, we
teenagers are growing fast. I think it's a good way to
help others," Li Mengtian, a junior student, says.
"I often pick out some of my clothes which
are out of style after going shopping. Then I'll put
them into the donation box," Miss Li, a pretty
young lady, says.
"That seems like a good idea. Some clothes
in the box are quite new. People can either wear
them or use them to make things, such as
handbags and pencil cases," Mrs Wang, an old
woman, says. "Sometimes I also look through the
box for some nice clothes."
However, there are some problems along with
the popularity of clothes donation. Recently, a TV
reporter from Focus on the City has made a survey.
Here are the results of it:
● The box is full of clothes in a short time.
There is no more room for people to give
away clothes.
● Some people sell the clothes in the
donation box for making money.
● Some communities set the box in unsuitable
places, so there are few clothes in it.
● Many clothes are too old to wear.
"What's worse (更糟糕)," one of the
workers in a community adds, "we often see
people throw rubbish into the box when they pass
by. We tried to stop them several times but failed.
It has been the most serious problem since we set
the box."
In order to make the donation box work in a
useful way, our government is taking action.
Clothes donation will be better-organized and it'll
be easier for people in need to take the clothes
away.
1. What does Li Mengtian think of the Clothes
Donation Box?
2. Why does Miss Li give away her clothes?
3. What does the underlined word "them" in
Paragraph 4 refer to?
4. How many problems are mentioned about the
donation box?
5. Do you think the donation box is a good idea in
the neighbourhood? Why or why not?

1. 根据第二段Li Mengtian所说的“I think it's a good way to help others”,可直接得出她对衣物捐赠箱的看法。
2. 从第三段Miss Li的表述“I often pick out some of my clothes which are out of style after going shopping. Then I'll put them into the donation box”,可知她捐赠衣物的原因是这些衣服已经过时了。
3. 第四段中“Some clothes in the box are quite new. People can either wear them or use them to make things”,此处的“them”指代前文提到的“Some clothes in the box”。
5. 开放性题目,结合文章传递的公益理念,可回答“Yes, because it can help people in need.”(言之有理即可)
【答案】
1. It's a good way to help others.
2. Because they are out of style.
3. Some clothes in the box.

【知识点】
1. 阅读理解细节查找
2. 代词指代猜测

答案
One possible version:
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am Li Hua, an exchange student
from China studying here. As Helen Keller
said, "Alone we can do so little; together
we can do so much." I truly believe in the
power of working together.
I'm good at cultural exchange because I
know much about Chinese culture like paper-
cutting. I also enjoy working with others and
helping people deal with small problems.
I have two plans. First, I can hold a
Chinese culture day to share our traditions.
Second, I'll help neighbours with small
troubles like fixing broken things.
I would love to be part of the
community. Thank you for your time.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
