Use of technology in sports is supposed to provide accurate and instant(即时的)
feedback, with better decisions and fewer mistakes than human intervention. It seems like a perfect way to improve fairness in games. But is that always true?
This year, the Wimbledon tennis tournament decided to replace line judges with AI. These judges traditionally decide if the ball is in or out of bounds. The new AI analyses camera footage, which should be faster and more accurate than humans. However, the electronic line system failed just one week into the 2025 championship. A person accidentally turned off the ball-tracking technology during a match, so a point had to be replayed. This made Sonay Kartal win the game in an arguable way. If technology still needs humans to operate it, who is to blame when things go wrong?
In football, referees often get criticized for their decisions. Now VAR, the “video assistant referee”, is widely used in major leagues. Referees can ask for a VAR check when unsure, like when awarding a penalty(点球), to double-check their judgment. But last season, VAR made several mistakes that angered many managers, players and fans. They said the system did not work well and even favoured some teams. Still, the Premier League’s Tony Scholes said standards were higher than ever. “Before VAR, 82% of decisions were thought correct. Now, that number is 96%,” he said.
★? Professor Gina Neff says humans have a strong in-built sense of fairness. “Machines decide based on programmed rules,” she said. “We feel humans understand the context better than machines in many areas.”
Whether you trust it or not, technology is here to stay, including in sports.

62题:根据原文第二段“the electronic line system failed just one week into the 2025 championship. A person accidentally turned off the ball-tracking technology during a match”,可知系统故障是人为关闭导致,故选C。
64题:原文第四段明确提到“humans have a strong in-built sense of fairness”,这是人们怀疑体育科技的原因,故选C。
