It was a hot summer day today. I was advised to stay at home to avoid getting sunburned.
And my father said to me,“Look outside,Jesse! It’s hot enough to fry an egg on the road!”
After hearing what my father said, I thought it was unbelievable. Was it true? So I decided to have a try myself. I took an egg from our fridge and went out right away. Then I broke it and poured it out on the side of the road. But it wasn’t fried. It didn’t even turn white around the edge(边界). After seeing that,I went back,feeling upset. Why wasn’t it fried? I turned to my father for help. He thought for a while and said,“It wasn’t hot enough.”
I wanted to know how to solve the problem,so I asked my elder brother for help. He said,“Why not use a magnifying glass(放大镜) to shine on the egg?” He told me that Miss Li once said that the magnifying glass can focus(聚焦) the sunlight and cause the temperature to rise.“So we could fry the egg on the road in this way,” my brother said. I agreed with him. After a few minutes,the egg was just fried.
I felt happy because I got new knowledge through practice. Later,I understood,“What others say is not always right. It only takes practice to find out whether it’s true or not.”
