五、阅读理解
According to a new research this year, kids who volunteer aren’t just helping their community. They might also be helping themselves. It is said that doing volunteer work through school or community groups will do good to the health of kids.
What the survey(调查)shows
Experts did a survey among the parents of about 50,000 kids aged 6 to 17 in the United States, and found that kids who took part in community service were 34% more likely(可能)to be in very good physical health than those who didn’t. And those who volunteered were 66% more likely to be doing well. Kids aged 12 and older who volunteered were 25% less likely to feel stressed than those who didn’t.
What the result suggests
The result may have something useful to do with youth mental health. In recent years, depression(抑郁)and anxiety are becoming more and more common among young people. For example, more than 40% of high school students were reported experiencing feelings of sadness or hopelessness in 2023. One possible way to solve this may be doing volunteer work in the community.
Why volunteering works
Other researches have also found the connections between volunteering and well-being among kids. Serving the community seems to help people feel a sense of purpose. In this way, they feel connected to those around them, and it makes them happier and healthier. However, experts also point out that it’s not possible to say for sure that volunteering makes better mental and physical health. It could be that when kids take part in volunteering work, they get out of themselves and relax for a while, which has some active influence on both the mental and physical health.

解析

【解析】
1. 第1题:根据文中“Experts did a survey among the parents of about 50,000 kids aged 6 to 17 in the United States”可知A选项“英国”表述错误;文中提到“it’s not possible to say for sure that volunteering makes better mental and physical health”,故B选项“肯定能让孩子健康”不符合原文;C选项“12岁及以上的孩子不会焦虑”在文中无依据,且与“Kids aged 12 and older who volunteered were 25% less likely to feel stressed”不符;D选项“专家在众多家长中开展调查”符合原文描述,故选D。
