Ⅳ. Read and answer the questions.阅读并回答问题。
The way people read has changed greatly throughout history, from ancient writing to our
digital age.
Long ago, during the Shang Dynasty, people in China started using bamboo slips(竹简) as
one of their first writing materials. They tied these thin pieces of bamboo together to make the
earliest "books". These slips were used to record important information and stories, which helped
knowledge and culture spread.
The use of bamboo slips became very popular in the Warring States Period. As different
schools of thought developed, these slips were the main tool for writing down philosophy(哲学),
history, and literature. There were even rules for their use: longer slips were for important
records, while shorter ones were for personal notes.
After the Han Dynasty, paper was invented. Thanks to improvements by Cai Lun,paper
became cheaper and easier to produce. What's more, paper was much lighter and more convenient
than heavy bamboo slips,so it slowly replaced them. By the Jin Dynasty, paper had become the
most common writing material.
The journey from bamboo slips to paper, and now to e-books, shows how technology
changes our learning and connects with the past.
19. How did people make the earliest "books"?
20. When did the use of bamboo slips become very popular?
21. Who improved the paper-making technology according to the text?
22. Which do you think is the best:bamboo slips, paper or e-books? Why?
