Lots of junior high school students enjoy sports.
My classmates and I had a lot of fun at our school's annual(一年一度的) sports meeting last week.
It was pretty special for me because I joined in the 800-metre race for the first time. Though I trained hard every day, I was still worried on the day of the sports meeting.
As we lined up, my arms were shaking and my heart was beating fast. Facing the endless track, I felt like a boat facing the wind and rain. I reminded myself that simply participating is a victory itself, and I started to calm down.
Just then, the starting gun went off and all the runners rushed out like tigers running down a hill. It wasn't until I finished the first lap that I realized I'd run too fast and used up almost all my energy. But I had to keep running for the last 100 metres. Blue veins(青筋) stood out on my forehead and I felt that I couldn't breathe. Watching the runners in front of me get closer to the finish line, I really wanted to stop running and sit down. But I reminded myself that perseverance itself is a victory and that thought filled me with strength again. With my remaining strength, I ran to the finish line with great effort and I ended up coming in seventh place.
This might have been a trivial achievement to other people, but it made me feel especially happy and excited. I had pushed myself to my limit.
