When I was in Grade 6, I often compared myself to others. One day, my best friend, Lily, got the shiny star sticker I really wanted because she came out first in a maths competition. That made me feel quite low. “She’s better than me!” The thought rang in my ears.
Then, Mr Abbott, our wise teacher, shared a magic secret. He advised, “Instead of feeling disappointed, focus on your own performance and goals. You’ll shine just as brightly.” I decided to give it a try.
I started keeping a diary and wrote down one good thing that happened each day. This helped me appreciate what I had. I also made a “dream board”. I put where I wanted to be at the end of the year on it. It encouraged me to reach my goals
through careful preparation and hard work. Slowly but surely, the methods worked! The day finally arrived when I got the star sticker myself!
Here’s the really cool part: I have learned to be happy for Lily too. Cheering for my friend makes me feel super happy!
