Have you ever dreamed of writing down your thoughts without holding a pen or typing on a keyboard? This amazing idea is no longer just a fantasy, but a real achievement made by students from Tianjin University. They successfully used Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) technology to “write” the Chinese character “fu” (which means blessing).
“The character is actually written by a robotic arm, and the arm is controlled directly by the researchers’ thoughts,” explained Professor Xu Minpeng from Tianjin University. In their laboratory, two researchers wore special caps with sensors. They focused their eyes on a computer screen and tried to “write” the character with their minds. First, a computer received and analyzed signals from their brainwaves. Then, it sent orders to the robotic arm, which finally wrote “fu” on a piece of red paper. The whole process took the researchers about three minutes.
BCI technology is not new. It has been applied in many different fields. In 2016, Chinese astronauts Jing Haipeng and Chen Dong tested a BCI system in the Tiangong II space lab, and it was the first time that such a system was used in space. Scientists hope that in the future, astronauts can use BCI technology to finish difficult tasks, because moving around in space is really challenging for them.
Besides space exploration, BCI technology can also bring great help to disabled people. For instance, those who have lost their hands or arms may use BCI to send messages or browse (浏览) the internet easily. What’s more, BCI might be widely used in smart homes someday. You could just think “turn on the light”, and the lights in your house would turn on automatically.

3. 第三段提到“astronauts can use BCI to finish difficult tasks, because moving around in space is really challenging for them”,them指代前面的astronauts,选D。
The writer mainly wants to tell us what BCI technology is and its uses.
