The Dragon Boat Festival
As we all know, the Dragon Boat Festival is one of the most important traditional festivals in China. It falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month every year. People celebrate it to remember Qu Yuan, a great ancient poet who loved his country deeply.
On this festival, people have many special customs. The most popular one is eating zongzi. Zongzi is made of glutinous(黏的) rice with different fillings, such as red beans, meat, Chinese dates(枣) or salted egg yolks. It is wrapped in bamboo leaves and tastes soft and delicious. Every family usually makes zongzi together before the festival, which brings family members closer.
Another exciting activity is dragon boat racing. Teams sit in long, narrow
boats shaped like dragons and row as fast as they can. People stand along the river. They cheer and shout loudly. It's full of energy and fun. Besides, some people hang wormwood(艾草) and calamus(菖蒲) outside their doors to keep away bad luck. They also wear colorful silk threads(线) around their wrists for good health.
The Dragon Boat Festival is not only a time for fun and delicious food, but also a way to pass down traditional culture. It teaches us to love our country and value our traditions. I really enjoy this festival because it is meaningful and full of warm memories with my family.
