A day at school
I am a junior high school student. I love going to school.
My school is close to my home, so I always go to school on foot. Classes start at 8:00 a.m., and I am seldom late. My favourite subject is Geography.
I enjoy learning about different places in the world.
In the morning, we usually study Chinese, Maths and English. We have our morning break at 9:50 a.m. When the bell rings, I run to the playground with my best friends Tom and Jack. We often practise playing football. Break ends at 10:10 a.m. How short it is!
Lunch is from 11:50 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Afternoon classes end at 3:30 p.m. Then Tom, Jack and I take part in after-school activities. We make great music together.
I'm glad to have a good time at school. What about you?

1. 分析各选项划线字母a的发音:A. start /stɑːt/中a发音为/ɑː/;B. practise /ˈpræktɪs/中a发音为/æ/;C. activities /ækˈtɪvətiz/中a发音为/æ/;D. glad /glæd/中a发音为/æ/,因此A项划线部分发音不同,选A。

How many fathers usually go to the class's parent-teacher meetings? Did you ever think about a “dads only” parent-teacher meeting?
This autumn, a school in Hangzhou had a special meeting. It only invited dads.
“The school wanted to encourage dads to actively(积极地) take part in family education,” reported Guangming Daily.
Now, the worry about the absence(缺席) of fathers in family education is growing. Most mums in China help their kids with homework—about 68 out of 100 mums do this.
However, both dads and mums play important roles in their children’s education. “Dads can shape young kids’ personalities,” said Luo Xuepeng, a father from Guangdong with a 9-year-old son. “A wise and strong dad can help children have good habits and become happier.”
Why don’t dads go to school meetings? They say:
• I’m really busy with work and can’t take time off.
• I’m not good at talking with teachers and I may miss something important. My wife is better at it.
• Traditionally, dads just make some money. Going to school meetings feels like more of a mum’s job.
• Sometimes I just like to relax and be a lazy dad.
Scientists say dads can do more to help their kids. When dads spend more time with their kids, the kids can do better when facing stress(压力). They feel more confident and it’s easier to make more friends.
