It's a common belief that fish can't remember anything for longer than seven seconds. It may seem sad to think that every moment in their lives would be like seeing the world for the first time. But don't be so quick to feel sorry for them. A new study has found that fish have much better memories than we used to think.
In the study, researchers in Canada trained a kind of fish called African cichlids to go to a certain area of their tank to get food. They took the fish out and then waited for 12 days before putting them back in the tank again. They found that after such a long break the fish still went to the same place where they first got food. In fact, scientists had been thinking for a long time that African cichlids might have a good memory. But there was no clear evidence until the latest findings.
Just as a good memory can make our lives easier, it also plays an important part when a fish is trying to survive in the wild. "If fish are able to remember that a certain area contains safe food, they will be able to go back to that area without putting their lives in danger," the lead researcher Trevor Hamilton said.
So next time you are watching your pet fish from outside the tank, perhaps you should feel closer to them—they may remember who you are.

1. 第1题:根据原文第一段前两句“ It's a common belief that fish can't remember anything for longer than seven seconds. It may seem sad to think that every moment in their lives would be like seeing the world for the first time.”可知,人们认为鱼的记忆差,所以为它们难过,对应选项A。B选项“不能记住任何东西”与原文“记忆不超过7秒”不符,排除;C、D选项原文未提及,排除。
2. 第2题:根据第二段“trained a kind of fish called African cichlids to go to a certain area of their tank to get food”可知,tank是装鱼的容器,即水箱,对应选项D。A(鱼食)、B(渔网)、C(渔具)均不符合语境,排除。
3. 第3题:根据第三段研究者Trevor Hamilton的话“If fish are able to remember that a certain area contains safe food, they will be able to go back to that area without putting their lives in danger”可知,好记忆能让鱼在野外更安全,对应选项C。A、B、D选项均与原文表述不符,排除。
4. 第4题:文章围绕鱼类记忆的科学研究展开,属于科学类内容,因此最可能来自科学杂志,对应选项D。A(故事书)、B(健康报告)、C(旅行书)均不符合文章类型,排除。
