Chinese electric vehicle (EV) makers made a strong impression at the biennial(两年一次的) IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich in September. But it's hard to win lasting support from European consumers, experts say.
China was the largest source of foreign exhibitors at this year's event, with 116 companies among about 750 participants from more than 30 countries and regions.
Many kinds of electric vehicles were on display, such as BYD, NIO, and Xpeng. NIO showed predictive suspension(悬架) technology developed by ClearMotion, while BYD confirmed(确认) that production at its first European factory in Hungary would begin soon. “Europe is a very important market for us,” said Stella Li, executive(有执行权的) vice-president of BYD.
Many electric vehicle makers in Europe have taken note of the growing competition. A sales manager of a company said, “Chinese EVs are already doing better than European products in both technology and design. In the long run, Chinese EVs will certainly establish themselves in Europe.” He added, “But European firms will not give up the market, and their ability will continue to deliver better products to customers.”
“Chinese EV makers hold clear advantages,” said a president of a business association(协会). “Their cost competitiveness(竞争力) comes from mastery(控制) of the whole supply chain. This allows them to keep prices down without sacrificing margins(利润).”
