A popular belief is that mosquitoes might aim at you because they like your blood type. Some studies say mosquitoes prefer people with type O blood. In one study, 83.3% of mosquitoes chose type O, while only 46.5% preferred type A. But experts say more research is needed to find out how true this is.
Another thing that makes you a magnet(有吸引力的人) for mosquitoes is the air you breathe out. Mosquitoes can smell the carbon dioxide in it. They can sense it from over 10 meters away. People who are bigger or breathe harder after exercise are easier aims for mosquitoes.
Your clothing color matters, too. Mosquitoes are visual hunters. But they see dark colors like black and navy(海军蓝) more easily than light colors. Studies have found that mosquitoes are most attracted to black.
Mosquitoes are also drawn to certain body smells. They love the smell of acids(酸性物质) on our skin. Genes and exercise can affect how much acid the body gives off. Mosquitoes are so sensitive(敏感的) to this smell that even perfumes(香水) can't hide it.
So, how do we stay safe? Wear light-colored clothes, especially outside. Use bug spray, especially after sweating. And try not to exercise outdoors in the early evening when mosquitoes usually come out. With these simple tips, we can enjoy summer with fewer bites and more smiles.
