五、阅读理解。
What happens when a newspaper is recycled? It is cut up, mixed with water and chemicals and boiled before it is pressed into new paper. The process includes many steps and uses a lot of energy. So is there a simpler way to deal with solid waste? Yes, there is. It's called upcycling.
In recycling, an object is broken down into small pieces. However, in upcycling, the whole object, or parts of the object, is reused in a new way. Upcycling can be less wasteful and more creative than recycling.
Unwanted electronic equipment(设备), or e-waste, is especially dangerous to throw away because it has toxic(有毒的)materials. Since e-waste is mostly made up of plastic and metals, it takes a long time for it to break down. As a result, it stays buried in landfills for centuries and ends up causing air and water pollution. In order to reduce e-waste, people are upcycling their old electronics to create stylish jewellery pieces.
Upcycling is catching on in Hong Kong, China. Many upcycled products can now be found more easily than ever. Here are two examples of local upcyclers.

解析

【分析】
本题为英语阅读理解题,需结合文章内容逐一分析各题目:
1. 题25考查upcycling的核心概念,文章明确其是对物体整体或部分重新利用而非分解,据此判断对应图片;
2. 题26考查第三段写作目的,需梳理段落核心内容(电子垃圾的危害),匹配对应选项;
3. 题27考查词义猜测,结合上下文“升级再造产品更容易找到”的语境推断短语含义;
4. 题28考查细节理解,结合文中升级再造产品的特点匹配选项。
【解析】
1. 题25:根据文章第二段“upcycling是将整个或部分物体以新方式再利用”,而非回收的分解方式,对应选项C的图片符合升级再造的特点,故选C;
2. 题26:第三段主要阐述电子垃圾含毒、难分解、会造成空气和水污染,核心是说明丢弃电子垃圾的危险性,A(保存地点)、C(分解方式)、D(原因)均不符合,故选B;
3. 题27:“catching on”所在句提到升级再造产品更容易找到,说明其变得更受欢迎,A选项符合语境,B(快速消失)、C(更严重)、D(更少关注)均不符,故选A;
4. 题28:结合文中升级再造产品(如Boombottles)的描述,可知其轻便易携带,对应选项C,A(全球购买)、B(砍树)、D(扬声器音量)均不符合,故选C。
