In September 2025, back from summer vacation, students at a primary school in Chengdu,Sichuan were pleased to find that their desks and chairs could be turned into post-lunch nap recliners(午睡躺椅).
This helps with a problem in many schools in China. Before, with small space and traditional desks, most students could only sleep by resting their heads on their desks. “I can take a good nap with this chair and desk. And I feel fresher for afternoon classes,” said Wang Yumu,a student at the primary school in Chengdu.
Good rest helps students stay healthy and do better in class. “A good nap after morning classes makes students focus on their studies and helps students keep a positive mind,” said Chen Qianlin,a school teacher.
More schools are using “nap-friendly” recliners. For example,Ganzhou plans to buy over 20,000 sets of “nap-friendly” desks this year. In Fenghua,Zhejiang,schools get over 20,000 sets of “nap-friendly” facilities(设备).
