第二节 阅读短文,回答问题(每小题2分,共10分)
On a hot summer day, tourists were excited to visit the tiger kindergarten in Shaoguan City, south China's Guangdong Province. Honghong was a one-year-old baby tiger. It walked to the glass wall and looked at visitors curiously. It pressed its nose against the wall as if there was nothing between it and the visitors.
This kindergarten is part of a South China tiger breeding base in Shaoguan. Shaoguan is a mountainous city. The base works on breeding tigers, training them to live in the wild and teaching people about these tigers. Now 14 South China tigers live at the base. Four of them are baby tigers in the kindergarten. Lei Shengqiao is a keeper at the base. He said, "We feed the baby tigers by hand when they are born. When they turn three months old, we take them to the kindergarten."
The kindergarten has climbing frames(攀爬架), wooden sticks and toy balls. These things help the baby tigers learn wild skills, like climbing and finding food.
South China tigers live only in China. Before, their number dropped a lot because their living areas were damaged. They were almost gone. China took many steps to save them. The country has made laws to stop people from cutting down forests and hunting tigers. It has also built nature reserves for this valuable animal. These efforts worked. The number of South China tigers went up. In 2022, there were more than 240 of them, while in the 1950s, there were only 18.
Keeper Lei said happily, "I hope these tigers can go back to the wild someday."
