Ⅱ. Read and complete(植物与我们的生活息息相关。阅读短文,了解植物的神奇之处,并完成任务)
How plants change our lives
From the food we eat to the air we breathe (呼吸), plants play an important role in our daily lives. They are not just decorations in our gardens. They are great helpers that give us medicine, materials and a healthier environment.
Green medicine
Plants can help us feel better when we are sick. Long ago, people found that chewing on willow tree bark could reduce pain and fever. Later, scientists used this idea to make a medicine we now call aspirin.
Another plant called Qinghao (sweet wormwood) was used in ancient China to treat fevers. A scientist named Tu Youyou found a way to make a medicine from this plant. This medicine, called artemisinin, now helps millions of people who get sick with malaria.
More than just medicine
Plants do much more than heal us. We get cotton from cotton plants, which is made into soft and comfortable clothes. Trees give us wood to build our houses and furniture. Many plants, like bamboo, grow very quickly and are used to make everything from cups to buildings, which is good for our planet.
Cleaning the air
Plants are like natural air cleaners. Through a process called photosynthesis, they take in carbon dioxide and release fresh oxygen for us to breathe. Having plants in our homes and cities helps clean the air and makes our environment more pleasant.
Plants are silent but incredible partners in our lives. They provide us with essential medicines, useful materials and clean air. By protecting plants, we are finally protecting our own future.
