Suqian, a beautiful city in Jiangsu, has a special traditional folk activity called “Zou Beibian”. It is a wonderful parade(游行） with a history of about 300 years. This year, the great event took place from February 18 to February 20, which was from the 2nd to the 4th day of the first lunar month.
The parade went along three wonderful places: Xichu Street, Xingfu Road and Xinsheng Street. There were eight big theme groups in the parade this year. People could enjoy many great intangible cultural heritage shows, such as beating drums, dragon dances, running donkeys and walking on stilts. These performances made the Spring Festival full of happiness and rich traditional culture.
To make the activity more exciting, people added modern technology to it. Visitors could play and talk with cute robots and robot dogs. Traditional folk art and modern technology brought people a new and surprising experience.
The “Zou Beibian” parade was so successful that it was reported on the front page of People’s Daily and also on CCTV News Channel 24 HOURS. It showed Suqian’s wonderful folk culture to the whole country.
