Making Model Rockets
In October, Zhang Heng, a middle school student, successfully sent his homemade "recyclable probe rocket(可回收探测火箭)" in Linyi, Shandong. When Zhang was young, he had a strong interest in space. He began teaching himself how to make model rockets and read many books about it. With the help of local model rocket fans, he successfully built three model rockets. He also carried out tests in a safe place.
Imagine talking with astronauts? No problem. This is something Ezekiel Wheeler from the US tried to do when he was 8. Now, as a 13-year-old boy, he made a machine by himself to help others speak to astronauts on the International Space Station. He made his own tracker(追踪设备) with a 10-foot-long antenna(天线) and other 3D-printed parts. This project helped him win second prize in the top middle school STEM competitions in the US.
Sending Algae(水藻) to Space
Middle school students from Sydney, Australia, sent algae to space to help make the earth greener. On Nov. 5, they were so happy to see the SpaceX-31 mission(任务) set off from Florida with the students' "Algae in Microgravity(微重力)" science study to the International Space Station. The goal is to test if algae grows faster in space. The results could help create new food, medicine and air for space travel and improve the environment on earth.
