第一节 阅读理解(每小题2分,共20分)
(A)
During every winter and summer vacation, my mum drives 600 kilometres back to her hometown, with my sister and me sitting in the back seat. We always spend some relaxing days enjoying soft beach sand and gentle sea waves there, but before any seaside fun, we always visit my great-grandma.
Great-grandma always waits at the door long before our arrival. The moment she catches sight of us, she stretches out her trembling hands eagerly. For years, my mum would step forward quickly to hold her hand tightly. But this year, perhaps because I had grown taller and walked faster, I unexpectedly held her waiting hand before Mum could do it.
After greeting her, Mum got down to cooking as usual. She unpacked gifts and food she had carefully prepared and brought from home. While cooking, she always checked the kitchen and other daily things. Anything missing would be added to our shopping list for the next day. In the past few years, my sister and I would sit in the living room, glued happily to cartoons. But now that we are middle school students, cartoons can hardly attract us now. My sister got bored very soon and walked into the kitchen to help. I stayed in the living room, keeping Great-grandma company. She was still talkative as always, eager to pour out all her old stories. She always thinks we are hearing these stories for the first time. I didn’t tell her the truth. I just listened quietly. Meanwhile, I held her hands the way my mum did. I guessed this could make her feel loved. I noticed slight changes in her face compared with what I remembered from our last visit. That moment made me truly sense her aging and her deep longing for us.
Love is too big a word until it turns into actions. It can never be taught with empty words. It can only be learnt from responsible deeds.
