Ⅲ. 阅读短文并完成任务。
Plants—Our Green Friends
Plants are amazing living things. They are everywhere—on land, in the ocean, and even within space stations! Scientists grow plants in space to learn how they live.
A plant has different parts, and each part has an important job. The root grows in the ground. It takes in water and helps the plant stand up. The stem holds the plant tall. It also carries water to other parts. The leaf is like a small workshop. It uses sunlight to collect energy and mix it with water and air. Then it produces sugar for the plant to grow. This natural work also makes oxygen, a very important product for human beings to breathe. Without plants, there is no fresh air!
Some plants grow very fast. A kind of bamboo can grow 91 centimetres in just one day! In only a quarter of a day, it gets much taller.
People began to farm over 10,000 years ago. Today, we still get a lot of food from plants. But plants are more than food. We use different plants to make medicines. People collect leaves and roots, then send them to workshops.
Though plants cannot speak, they work hard every day. When it gets dark, they rest. But soon the sun rises again, and they start working.
Next time you see a plant, say hello. They are our great friends!
