Zhou Jingyi is a student from Inner Mongolia(内蒙古) University of Finance and Economics. 2024 marks her third year working as a railway volunteer. As she comes from Chongqing, Zhou serves at Wanzhou North Station in Chongqing during her winter vacation.
Zhou began to do volunteer work in 2019. She was influenced by her family. Zhou said, "My mother does much volunteer work. That made me decide to become a volunteer, too. She always encouraged me to do my best to help others."
Wanzhou North Station was very busy during the Spring Festival travel rush(春运). More than 120 trains with thousands of passengers passed through it every day. Zhou was always ready to help them. Sometimes, she had to answer the same question from different people lots of times, but she never lost patience. "I have a sore throat after a day's work, but it doesn't matter. I'm very happy that my work helps and warms the passengers on their journey," she said.
The most unforgettable experience for Zhou was helping an old woman with several bags. "I helped her carry the bags to the ticket gates. She kept saying 'Thank you' and gave me two oranges, telling me that 'you look so much like my granddaughter'," Zhou said. "Those were the sweetest oranges I have ever had."
