Pippi Longstocking* (《长袜子皮皮》), written by the Swedish writer Astrid Lindgren, is a fun story about a naughty girl named Pippi. The book has been loved by both kids and adults all over the world since it was first published in 1945.
The book was on my reading list when I was in primary school in Poland. It was quite a thick book. But once I started, I couldn't put it down. Every chapter had a new and exciting adventure that kept me turning the pages.
Pippi is an orphan (孤儿). She lives alone in a house called Villa Villekulla. To me, she is a great example of strength and independence (独立). She doesn't follow any rules, and she doesn't go to school. She cooks, cleans and manages money all by herself.
In one chapter, Pippi's friends, Tommy and Annika, ask her to go to school for a day. It doesn't go well. Pippi can't do basic maths, and when it is time to draw, she makes a huge picture of her horse on the floor because a piece of paper isn't big enough.
Even though Pippi is a bit crazy and very different, I still like how Tommy and Annika accept her. They show that true friendship grows on respect and shared joy. The book is also a call to accept your differences. For anyone feeling worried about being themselves, Pippi's world is a reminder that creativity and kindness matter more than fitting in.

In the quiet *hutong* of Beijing's Dongcheng District, there's a super special library that feels like a hidden treasure. It's only 7 square metres. 1 But step inside, and you'll be surprised: shelves are packed with thousands of books, covering all kinds of fun topics. 2
This library isn't like the ones you usually go to. You don't need to join as a member. You don't have to return the books. 3 The rule is simple: you can take one book every 15 days. When you finish reading it, just pass it to a friend, a classmate, or even someone you don't know well. Borrowing is easy too—you don't need to pay a deposit (押金) or give your phone number. Just push the door, pick a book you like, and off you go!
A man named Xu Dawei started this library back in 2010. It's a non - profit place, so Xu never turns it into a café or sells things—he just wants to help more people fall in love with reading. 4 Once, an English book about Chinese gardens was passed from person to person until it reached Germany.
Now, e - books are everywhere. Many young people don't read physical books much. 5 Xu hopes to give the library to his son one day, so it can keep bringing books and smiles to people for years and years.
A. Best of all, every book here is free!
B. You might walk past it without noticing!
C. Some books from here have even travelled far!
D. It's like a little "knowledge box" full of surprises!
E. But this little library keeps the joy of reading alive.
F. Xu often buys new books to add to the library's shelves.
