Students gain full experience from selecting and preparing food to barbecuing food, the report said. In the evenings, students will practice on-site at more than 30 top local barbecue restaurants. "During busy hours, students can learn to deal with unexpected problems and understand how restaurants work," the head said.
Set up in July 2025, the college has written three textbooks on its own and collected materials from local barbecue restaurants about the full process of selecting, preparing and barbecuing ingredients. The college has also set up classes to improve the education level of more than 30 experienced barbecue masters with great skills but low education, helping them get teaching *certificates*, according to the report.
After graduation, students can not only check their college or bachelor's degrees on the national education website, but also take professional skill tests to become qualified(有资格的) barbecue cooks, *Hunan Today* reported.
"Our phone has been ringing nonstop," the college head said. He hadn't expected to receive more than 40 calls just two days after *enrollment* began. He said that a restaurant owner from Shandong Province drove all the way here overnight, hoping to send his cooks for further training. He added that there was also an *applicant* who was a high school graduate.
