三、阅读与回答问题
请认真阅读下面短文,并根据短文内容回答问题。
Many people spend their holiday doing nothing on a beach, but Kirsty Ross wanted to do something different. “I spent three weeks working in the hot sun, digging to find pieces of old cups and plates,” she says. “I worked really hard all day and I slept in a tent at night. My friends thought I was crazy, but I had an amazing time. It was my best holiday ever!”
Kirsty was working for a volunteer programme (项目) in Tunisia in North Africa. Over twenty - five young volunteers worked together on archaeological sites (考古遗址) to find important information about the past. The volunteers had to be very careful, because it was important not to damage (损坏) the things they found. Many of them worked at Tunisia's biggest archaeological site in Carthage, and some of them worked in other important sites in the country. Kirsty explains (解释) why she chose this holiday. “I am always interested in history, and Tunisia has a lot of very important archaeological sites. There were people living in Carthage as early as 3,000 years ago. I love being in places that are so old. It is exciting to find pots and other things that people used every day.”
It was harder for Kirsty than for some of the others. “I come from Alaska, which is a cold place,” she says. “It was hard for me to work under the hot North African sun. But it was a wonderful chance to meet people from other countries and to learn about the past. It changed my life. Now I'm hoping to study archaeology in college.”
1. How long did Kirsty work in the hot North African sun during her holiday?
2. How many volunteers were there in the volunteer programme?
3. Why did Kirsty choose this holiday?
4. What's the weather usually like in Alaska?
5. What do you think of volunteer work? Why? (请自拟一句话作答)
