In today's world, applying to(申请) colleges, even jobs, asks questions about your volunteer experience. This is great! I know some people who are quick to talk about how they help others. Smiling big, they tell me about the number of volunteer hours. But sometimes I find out that they don't even know the task of the group! Although this only happened twice, it really troubled me. So I start to think that maybe this isn't the best way to think about helping others.
B
It should be more about making your community better, and learning what it means to be a good person in our world. You should think about helping others, not about how it will benefit you.
The best way to fix this is to change what colleges and jobs ask for. Instead of asking "how many hours have you helped", they should ask "how have you made things better for others". They should ask people to explain, and look for people who really care and try hard, instead of just seeing the hours they've spent.
We, the students, can also help fix this. Try to forget about the hours, because they're not important. Choose groups you care about and learn about the people you're helping. Don't help because you have to but because it's the right thing to do as a person. Next time you hear a friend talking about how many hours they've helped, tell them that numbers don't change the world.

根据下文“It should be more about making your community better, and learning what it means to be a good person in our world.”
根据第二段中“You should think about helping others, not about how it will benefit you.” 有好处”,与“be good for”同义。故选B。
根据第三段“The best way to fix this is... They should ask people to explain, and look for people who really care and try hard, instead of just seeing the hours they've spent.”
根据最后一段中“Don't help because you have to but because it's the right thing to do as a person.” 故选A。
根据最后一段中“Try to forget about the hours, because they're not important.”以及“tell them that numbers don't change the world”等内容可以看出,作者认为志愿者服务时长并不重要。

2. 词义猜测题:要依托句子语境,根据文章反对功利性志愿的态度,从“You should think about helping others, not about how it will benefit you.”
2. 词义猜测题:根据第二段“You should think about helping others, not about how it will benefit you.” 有好处”,与“be good for”同义,选B。
3. 细节理解题:由第三段“They should ask people to explain, and look for people who really care and try hard, instead of just seeing the hours they've spent.”
4. 细节理解题:根据最后一段“Don't help because you have to but because it's the right thing to do as a person.”
5. 观点态度题:从最后一段“Try to forget about the hours, because they're not important.”和“tell them that numbers don't change the world”的表述,能直接看出作者认为志愿服务的时长数字并不重要,选D。
