Chinese researchers have developed bricks from a material similar to lunar soil, hoping they can be used to build a lunar base in the future.
A team of researchers led by Ding Lieyun at the Huazhong University of Science and Technology(HUST) used a lunar soil simulant(模拟月壤) to make “lunar bricks” that are more than three times stronger than standard red bricks or concrete bricks. They also have mortise and tenon joint structures(榫卯结构), which were used in ancient Chinese buildings. This makes it possible to put these bricks together simply.
According to Zhou Cheng at HUST, the team tested five different kinds of simulated lunar soil and used three ways to harden them. This helped them choose the best materials for making the bricks.
D
▲ For example, one of the kinds of tested simulates the lunar soil at the landing site of Chang'e 5, which is mainly basalt. Some other kinds simulate the soil found at other locations, which is mainly anorthosite.
The lunar bricks need to undergo performance testing before being used because the moon has an extreme(极端的) environment. Quakes often happen there, and cosmic radiation is high. It gets as hot as $180°\mathrm{C}$ during the day and as cold as $-190°\mathrm{C}$ at night.
The lunar bricks were sent to China's space station on the Tianzhou-8 spacecraft to check how well the bricks do in space. The first brick returned to earth at the end of 2025. China hopes to build a lunar research station between 2028 and 2035.
1. What are the advantages of lunar bricks? >>
①convenient to produce ②simple to put together
③stronger than standard concrete bricks ④suitable for the extreme environment of the moon
A. ②③ B. ③④ C. ①②③ D. ②③④
2. Which of the following can be put in “ ▲ ” in Paragraph 3?
A. The soil on the moon changes over time.
B. The simulant is different from real lunar soil.
C. Lunar soil is similar everywhere on the moon.
D. Lunar soil changes in different locations on the moon.
3. What's the temperature difference between the lowest and highest on the moon? >>
A. $10°\mathrm{C}$. B. $180°\mathrm{C}$. C. $190°\mathrm{C}$. D. $370°\mathrm{C}$.
4. Which paragraph(s) talk(s) about why we test lunar bricks?
A. Paragraph 3. B. Paragraph 4. C. Paragraphs 3 & 4. D. Paragraphs 4 & 5.

根据第二段“make ‘lunar bricks’ that are more than three times stronger than standard red bricks or concrete bricks”和“This makes it possible to put these bricks together simply.” 故选A。
根据最后一段“The lunar bricks were sent to China's space station on the Tianzhou-8 spacecraft to check how well the bricks do in space. The first brick returned to earth at the end of 2025.”
根据下文“For example, one of the kinds of tested simulates the lunar soil at the landing site of Chang'e 5, which is mainly basalt. Some other kinds simulate the soil found at other locations, which is mainly anorthosite.”
根据第四段“It gets as hot as $180°\mathrm{C}$ during the day and as cold as $-190°\mathrm{C}$ at night.”
