A tug of war game
The kids are getting ready for a tug of war. Xiaopu, Minmin and Xiaofeng are on the Red Team, while Xiaojiang, Yaoyao and James are on the Blue Team. Xiaoyu wants to join and brings her friend Lele to the field.
Xiaopu, holding the rope, asks, “Which team do you want to join?” Xiaoyu looks at both teams. The Red Team members are taller with bigger arms. She says to Lele, “The Red Team looks stronger. They’ll win! I join them!” Lele smiles, “OK, then I go to the Blue Team.” Minmin says: “Welcome! More people mean more strength!” James tells Lele, “Hold the rope tight—let’s work hard together!”
The game starts. Xiaopu shouts, “One, two, pull!” The Red Team pulls hard and soon drags (拖动) the rope over the mid-line. Xiaoyu calls to Lele, “See! I know the Red Team will win!”
Then, Xiaojiang and Yaoyao from the Blue Team pull with all their strength. Lele joins in and she pulls the rope hard with her team. James leads cheers. The rope slowly moves to the Blue Team and they finally pull it over the mid-line. Xiaoyu’s hands ache (痛) from the rope, seeing the Blue Team is going to win, she says to Lele, “The Blue Team looks stronger. I don’t want to be on the losing side—let’s change! You come to the Red Team. I’ll join the Blue Team!”
Xiaojiang shouts, “You can’t do that—it’s against (违反) the rules!” But Xiaoyu says to her, “I’m strong—I can help you win!” Minmin and Xiaofeng pull hard, but Xiaoyu doesn’t use all her strength, so the Blue Team wins quickly. Minmin says to Xiaoyu “Xiaoyu, you break the rules!” “You’re not a good teammate at all!” The other kids are angry, “We don’t want to play with you, Xiaoyu—leave!”
Xiaoyu lowers her head, says, “I’m sorry ...” and leaves the field. The Red and Blue Teams change places and keep playing. James looks at Xiaoyu’s back and calls out, “Xiaoyu! Please be a good teammate and follow the rules and you can play with us next time!”
