Maria’s little sisters, Anna and Olivia, are fighting, so Maria goes to their room to know what happened.
Her sisters look at each other angrily. There are clothes all over the floor. “Well, Anna took my green shirt,” Olivia says. “It is my favourite one. She took it without asking and made it dirty.” “It isn’t my fault,” says Anna. “My friend Greg dropped his chocolate on me. Then Olivia started shouting at me and threw out all of my clothes.”
Maria tries to help them solve the problem. She tells Anna, “In my opinion, Anna, you took Olivia’s shirt without asking. Then you got it dirty at school. Though you didn’t dirty the shirt, it is your responsibility (责任) because you took it.” Anna nods. Then she tells Olivia, “Shouting at your sister and throwing her clothes won’t help. If you calm down and have a talk, you can solve the problem better.” Olivia nods and then says to Anna, “I am sorry I threw your clothes around. If you ask me next time before taking my things, I won’t be angry.” Anna also says sorry and promises to ask first before taking other people’s things.
The girls smile and both agree it is better when they get on with each other. Then Anna puts the shirt into the washing machine, and they eat ice cream together. Maria smiles, “If we are kind and talk well, everyone is happy!”
