C
Roald Dahl was born on 13th September, 1916, to a Norwegian family in Llandaff, South Wales. His father died when Roald was still a child.
In Road's early life, he didn't enjoy school and was bad in class. But he was good at cricket and swimming. One of his main hobbies was reading, and his favourite books were about adventures.
At the age of thirteen, Roald went to Repton Public School. He didn't like it, either. However, there was one good thing about this school. Every few months, the chocolate factory, Cadburys, sent boxes of chocolates to Repton for the students to taste. This happy memory gave Roald the idea for his most famous story, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
After finishing school, Roald got a job in the Shell Oil Company. Two years later, his company sent him to East Africa(东非). He had some unusual adventures there and really loved this different world. Once a black mamba entered his friend's house and a snake(蛇) catcher had to come to help.
Roald started writing in the 1940s. Then he married and had five children. The last years of his life were very happy and he wrote some of his best books during this period: The BFG, The Witches and Matilda. Roald Dahl died on 23rd November, 1990, in Oxford, England.
He was thought one of the best writers in the world.
