Dear Morey,
I just got your letter with the picture of you riding your e-bike to work. From the smile on your face, I can tell how much you enjoy that. I still remember when you could hardly ride a bicycle. You’ve come a long way!
Now here’s some advice. I’m sure you’re a good rider. But it is dangerous to ride without a helmet. So please get yourself a helmet. Wear it every time you ride. A helmet will help protect you from a head injury.
No, I’m not trying to be a bossy (多管事的) know-it-all. I just don’t want a bad fall to take that smile away from your face. When you visit me this summer, bring your helmet. Let’s enjoy some great rides together!
Your cousin,
Vera

Parents with young kids know very well that small things or bits of food can get stuck in the throat easily. This can make someone choke (窒息), which blocks the airway. Older kids and adults can also choke. The Heimlich Maneuver (海姆立克急救法) is a way to help someone who is choking. How to do the Heimlich Maneuver?
● Stand behind the person and put one leg forward between his legs.
● For a child, bend down to his height and keep your head to one side.
● Put your arms around the person and find his belly button (肚脐).
● Put the thumb side of one fist against the stomach just above the belly button.
● Hold your fist with your other hand and push in and up quickly into the person’s stomach. Do this five times or until the object comes out.
● Keep doing the thrusts until the person spits out the object or becomes unconscious (无意识的).
● If the person becomes unconscious, start CPR.
● Get medical help as soon as you can.
If you are alone and choking, you can push your stomach against the back of a chair to get the object out. This is better than trying to do the thrusts on yourself.
