Every country has its own culture. Some cultures are very different from ours. When travelling abroad, we should try to understand and respect these differences. This will help us enjoy our trip more.
In Singapore, you may have to pay a fine (罚款) for doing some activities, such as eating or drinking on public transport, or littering in public. There is also a very special rule here — you can’t chew gum (嚼口香糖). You can’t even bring chewing gum into the country. If you do, you may have to pay a heavy fine!
In Kenya, you should avoid (避免) calling people by their first names. That’s not polite. You need to use Miss, Mrs or Mr before their last names. When you don’t know a person’s name, you can call them “Madam” or “Sir”.
Some countries have special traditions for giving gifts. For example, in Norway, before you give flowers to people, you should use paper or cloth to cover the flowers. In Russia, you shouldn’t give an even number of flowers, like 2, 4, 6 or 8, because they are usually for dead people.
