Fun activities for ancient children
During ancient times, children didn't have smart phones, iPads or computers. However, they came up with fun activities to play in their childhood. Let's take a look.
1. Playing Cuju
Cuju used to be popular from the Han Dynasty to the Song Dynasty. It was a ball with fur inside, just like an air-filled ball today. It was an ancient Chinese activity to kick a ball through an opening into a net.
2. Flying kites
Kites have quite a long history in China. The earliest kites were made of wood instead of paper. Nowadays, the three most famous kites are the Beijing kite, the Tianjin kite and the Weifang kite. Each has its own style. For example, the bird-shaped kite with long wings is a special kind of the Beijing kite.
3. Watching shadow plays
The most similar thing to watching a film during ancient times was going to see a shadow play. The artists controlled the puppets(木偶) behind the screen to make them move like people and tell stories. People liked listening to the music and enjoyed the puppets.
4. Playing hide-and-seek
Hide-and-seek is a traditional game for children, popular around the nation. There were two ways: one was covering a child's eyes while other kids played a trick around on him, and the other was one child hid and other kids tried to find him.
These ancient games brought much joy to children's lives and are still remembered today.
