四、阅读理解
Whenever I see banana pudding on a menu, I think of a special moment in my life when I learned an important lesson about envy(嫉妒)and love.
It happened when Suzy came to visit me after her father married(娶)me.
I liked the kid. Of course, as her stepmother(继母), I wanted to win her. She seemed to like me, but I wasn't sure, especially(尤其)at mealtime. She enjoyed watching me prepare the evening meal very much.
“What are you doing?” she asked.
“Making potato salad,” I replied.
My answers did not seem to please her. She shook(摇)her head disappointedly. “My mama doesn't make it that way,” she said.
Unluckily, her father believed that children should eat everything on their plate, including a dish that I made in a different way from her mama did. At the table, Suzy cried and shouted, “Mama doesn't make it that way.” By this time, I got to dislike both her mother and her way of cooking.
Then, I found a dish her mother didn't make, but the kid liked. That is banana pudding. She helped me in the kitchen. It was a time of sharing happiness and laughter.
On the last night before she went back home, we made the banana pudding again. Suddenly, I knew that when Suzy got back home, her mother would hear a lot about “Karen doesn't do it that way”. I thought her mama must know I loved her child. Mothers all use one important ingredient(原料)in their cooking, the best one—love.

1. 细节理解题:根据原文第三段“Of course, as her stepmother(继母), I wanted to win her. She seemed to like me, but I wasn't sure...”可知,作者不确定孩子是否喜欢自己,因此想赢得孩子的好感,对应选项B。
2. 词义猜测题:根据原文第五段“She shook(摇)her head disappointedly. “My mama doesn't make it that way,” she said.”,孩子摇头并表示妈妈不那样做,说明她对作者做的土豆沙拉不满意,disappointedly意为“失望地”,即感觉不如希望的好,对应选项A。
3. 句意理解题:划线句“It was a time of sharing happiness and laughter.”位于第七段,前文是孩子对作者做的菜不满,后来两人一起做孩子喜欢的香蕉布丁,分享快乐,说明彼此之间建立了爱与接纳,对应选项C。
4. 主旨大意题:文章最后一段点明核心“Mothers all use one important ingredient(原料)in their cooking, the best one—love.”,即烹饪中的重要原料是爱,对应选项C。
