2. 听力中提到“People were very friendly.”,所以第二空填friendly。
3. 听力中提到“Instead of saying ‘give you a call’, they say ‘ring you up’.”,所以第三空填ring you up。

3.

4.

答案

1. didn't cut
2. pointed at
3. Tom used to play the guitar in his yard.
4. Not only; but also; likes; Neither; nor; likes

解析

1. 原句是一般过去时,cut为实义动词,否定句需借助助动词didn't,后接动词原形cut。
2. “指着”译为point at,由asked可知时态为一般过去时,point用过去式pointed。
3. 主语Tom,used to do sth. 过去常常做某事,play the guitar弹吉他,in his yard在他的院子里,按陈述句语序组合。
4. both...and...的同义短语为not only...but also...,连接并列主语时谓语动词遵循就近原则,原句谓语动词like,此处仍用like;both...and...的否定句用neither...nor...,谓语动词遵循就近原则,Jim为第三人称单数,like用第三人称单数形式likes。
Ⅳ 阅读理解。
Different countries have different customs in giving presents.
In China you must never give a clock to a Chinese person, because the sound of the word for “clock” is similar to the sound of “death”. Also, don't wrap a present in white, black or blue paper, because they are the colors for funerals (葬礼). Don't give a knife, because something sharp can cut a friendship.
In Russia if you give flowers as presents, you have to give an odd number of them (one, three, five, etc.) because even numbers of flowers are for funerals.
In Germany if you are invited to dinner, flowers are good presents to take to your dinner hostess, but don't take her red roses because it means you are in love with her. Don't take thirteen of anything because it's an unlucky number. Don't take an even number of anything, either. Don't wrap your presents in white, brown, or black paper.
