Rowing a boat is great fun. But how about 1 a cardboard boat? Wouldn't it sink(下沉)? Not quite, according to 7th-graders at North Middle School in Kentucky, USA.
About 40 students 2 a cardboard boat contest on 16 May at a pool. The race took place on a warm day, and many parents came to 3 their children. They worked in 4 and made boats with cardboard and tape.
The boats had to be able to float(漂浮) across the pool and 5 half the team members. Each team had only one hour to 6 their boat before the contest began.
Students made many 7 kinds of boats. Some made small boats while 8 put bottles around the boats to 9 them bigger and more balanced. One group even painted their boat in different colours to make it look more 10 and special.
But not all the boats made it to the finish line. Some boats 11 midway. When the boats sank, students in the water laughed loudly instead of feeling 12.
The project 13 the students about buoyancy(浮力). Jamie Boeglin, a science teacher, said, "It's a good way for the kids to just express(表达) their 14 and put them into practice." In the end, the teacher gave some 15 to the winners such as candies and toys. Everyone went home with smiles, feeling proud of what they had learnt and experienced that day.
