二、阅读理解
(2024·南通七下期末改编)David Stringer is a star in the Chinese community in New Zealand's South Island because he plays the traditional Chinese musical instrument *hulusi* so well.
On the evening of September 23, 2023, Stringer won many cheers again. He played a piece of Chinese folk music *Deep in the Bamboo Forest* using *hulusi* at the yearly Mid-Autumn Festival Gala Concert. It was a concert held by the Chinese community. “Although it is easy to play the *hulusi* at a basic level(初级水平), *Deep in the Bamboo Forest* needs lots of skills, which is a Grade 6 exam piece,” said Stringer.
Stringer first saw *hulusi* ten years ago on his first trip to Zhangjiajie in central China's Hunan Province. While seeing his curiosity(好奇心) about *hulusi*, his friend gave him one and also taught him to play it. The next year, Stringer went to China again and bought another two. Now, he has a total of five *hulusi* of different types.
“From young, I was introduced to Chinese culture. More recently, I have been learning Chinese and made many friends in the Chinese community. Like New Zealanders, I find them friendly and encouraging,” Stringer said. “Chinese cultural symbols can also be found everywhere in New Zealand, and most locals have also started celebrating traditional Chinese festivals, such as the Chinese New Year, the Lantern Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival, which are making our own culture richer.”
There is a *hulusi* club, and Stringer was encouraged to join it and has performed(表演) with the members there many times. “I feel lucky to make friends with Chinese people in the club, learn from and perform with them. *Hulusi* brings us together,” he said.
