It was a cold, dry February afternoon. I was in my house with my children. Suddenly, a fire broke out in my autistic(患孤独症的) son's room. In a few minutes, the fire spread across the living room and then the whole house.
My children and I all got out of the fire without getting hurt. However, we lost all of our possessions(财产), except for the clothes we were wearing. We didn't even have shoes on. I watched the fire go up through the roof. We lost our home. We had nowhere to live.
The main influence was on the children. My autistic son really had problems dealing with any changes. He couldn't even accept wearing a new pair of shoes. Yet we had to tell him that he would be living in a whole new house and that all of his clothes and toys were gone.
Thinking about the terrible fire, I couldn't help but feel scared. I was just thankful that my kids were all alive. Everyone was so nice. People went out of their way to help, not only on the day the fire broke out, but also in the weeks afterwards. Through the disaster, I have learnt:
